Green STREET

SUSTAINABILITY at STREET

Environmentally sustainable products play a key role in your experience at STREET. We believe, if we focus on the people who grow our food and the environment in which it is grown, we will inevitably produce a higher quality product. Working with sustainable fisheries, local family farms, sustainably guided ranches and direct trade beverage companies is what helps make our menu that much more delicious.
We serve only sustainable seafood, as part of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Program.

It’s our mission to make lesser known, delicious, sustainable seafood like Arctic Char, Black Cod, and Barramundi as appealing as perennial favorites like salmon. As part of the Seafood Watch program, we distribute pocket seafood guides to customers.

WE DO NOT SERVE TUNA OR SWORDFISH

Working with OCEANA, a leading international conservation organization, in their Stop Seafood Contamination campaign. Oceana aims to reduce the amount of mercury released into the environment, as well as educate the public about the risks of consuming fish with high mercury levels. As part of Oceana’s campaign, we agreed to remove tuna and swordfish from our menus because of high mercury content and the belief that there are more environmentally sound replacements that are just as delicious It’s our mission to make lesser known, delicious, sustainable seafood like Arctic Char, Black Cod, and Barramundi as appealing as perennial favorites like salmon. As part of the Seafood Watch program, we distribute pocket seafood guides to customers.

WE WORK DIRECTLY WITH SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC ENTERPRISES OF LOS ANGELES (SEE-LA)

SEE-LA is a private, nonprofit community development corporation, dedicated to improving the quality of life in the City of Los Angeles. They operate the Hollywood, Atwater Village, Silverlake, and Echo Park farmer’s markets and have just started “the Farmer’s Kitchen”, a community based kitchen to teach about the products and availability for food purchased through farmer’s markets and small, family growers.
We use an IN-HOUSE REVERSE OSMOSIS water purification system, instead of bottled water transported from around the world. This water is free to you because we believe that clean drinking water is not a privilege but an integral part of your meal. It provides an environmentally-friendly alternative to the waste associated with the manufacture, transport, and disposal of conventional bottled water.

We work with several organic and natural farms. Our beef and pork come from Coleman Natural. Our chicken comes from Petaluma Poultry. All of our milk and cream products come from Horizon Organic Dairy.

SILVERBACK COFFEE OF RWANDA

Coffee Flavors are virtually untarnished by modern agricultural techniques, and because it's exclusively grown by small farms it's 100% naturally grown. Most people will not associate the Republic of Rwanda with coffee, but in fact Africa is where the coffee bean originated. With volcanic soils, abundant rainfall and high altitude mountains, Rwanda has some of the best coffee-growing conditions in the world.

OUR WINE AND BEER PROGRAMS involve a number of sustainable, organic, and biodynamic choices

WE COMPOST AND RECYCLE

We pride ourselves on composting and recycling programs that leave us with only 3% pure waste being produced by our restaurant. We use all recycled and/or biodegradable to-go containers.
We strive for sustainability in every part of our restaurant. While building STREET, we incorporated sustainable materials wherever possible. Our bar tops, countertops, outdoor tables, and bathroom sinks are all made from Richlite, an FSC (forest stewardship council) approved material made from recycled paper. We have made high-efficiency choices in LED lighting. All of our furniture and décor based cleaning products are 100% biodegradable. We use Energy Star certified refrigeration. •
